Filipa Pato
They own 20 hectares of vineyard, mainly in 3
villages and scattered over 36 plots. We have even one
small vineyard - called “Missão” (0,6 ha) of prephylloxera
Baga planted back in 1864.
In the vineyard
- The soils are mainly limestone and clay, all mid slopes and eastern orientation.
- On average 1000 mm of water per year. During the winter months and early spring, there is a lot of rain. On the other hand, in the summer and early fall, it is typically very dry.
- The harvest is early, before the grapes are at their maximum ripeness, to harvest at a time when there is a subtle and delicate balance between sugar content and phenolic ripeness, while the grapes retain their precious acidity.
- low yields, for Baga, 30hl/ha is an absolute maximum. In some vineyards, it's down to 10hl/ha.
